Thinning Hair Serum

RATIONAL BODY Scalp Revival Serum Follicle Support · Leave-On Treatment

What This Is

A small-batch, leave-on scalp serum formulated for hormonal and postpartum hair thinning. Made without fillers, fragrance, or synthetic dyes. Every ingredient earns its place.

Key Actives

Rosemary CO₂ — follicle stimulation, circulation support

Coffee Extract — caffeine, DHT inhibition at scalp level

Pumpkin Seed Oil — phytosterols, natural DHT pathway support

Saw Palmetto — hormone-related shedding, follicle defense

Copper Peptide GHK-Cu — follicle environment regeneration

Vitaplex B Complex — B3, B5, B6, scalp nourishment and growth support

Niacinamide — scalp barrier, anti-inflammatory

Hyaluronic Acid — scalp hydration, follicle environment

How to Use

  1. Apply to a dry or slightly damp scalp, not wet hair. Part hair in sections to reach scalp directly.

  2. Dispense 8–10 drops and apply along parts. Do not apply to hair lengths — this works at the follicle.

  3. Massage gently with fingertips for 2–3 minutes. This stimulates circulation and helps absorption.

  4. Do not rinse. Style as normal. Best used as part of your nightly routine.

What to Expect

Weeks 1–4 — Scalp feels calmer. Shedding may continue during this period. This is normal as follicles reset and is not a sign the serum isn't working.

Weeks 4–8 — Shedding typically begins to slow. Scalp hydration improves noticeably.

Week 12 — First meaningful evaluation point. New growth is often visible at the hairline and along the part.

After 90 days — Shift to every 2–3 nights for ongoing maintenance. Do not stop entirely. Hormonal shedding can return within months of discontinuing treatment as the underlying hormonal pattern does not resolve on its own.

Storage and Shelf Life

Store in the refrigerator for best results. A cool dark place is the minimum.

Use within 9 months refrigerated, 6 months unrefrigerated.

pH 4.5–5.0, formulated for scalp health.

Preserved with Geogard 221, broad spectrum.

Made in small batches in Danville, California. No fragrance. No fillers. No shortcuts.

RATIONAL BODY

Supporting the appearance of fuller hair (since products are not allowed to say it reduces hair loss).

A small-batch, leave-on scalp serum formulated for hormonal and postpartum hair thinning. Made without fillers, fragrance, or synthetic dyes. Every ingredient earns its place.

Postpartum and post-pregnancy hormonal hair loss is actually a slightly different conversation than perimenopausal. Postpartum hair loss is called telogen effluvium and it can resolve on its own as hormones restabilize, but it can also become chronic if the underlying hormonal pattern doesn't fully reset, which is common after multiple pregnancies. The good news is this ingredient profile in this serum addresses both mechanisms so the formula is exactly right regardless of which is driving it.

SCALP REVIVAL SERUM — Hormonal Hair Loss 45 Year Old Woman | Perimenopausal | Hard Water | Dark Hair | 100g Batch (3.5oz) pH Target: 4.5-5.0 | Leave-on dropper | Shelf life 6 months

For one person using it correctly — 8-10 drops nightly or every other night on the scalp — a 100ml bottle lasts approximately 2-3 months. For hormonal hair loss you need a minimum 90 day consistent use before evaluating whether it's working. So one bottle can get someone almost exactly through that evaluation window if used nightly, or stretches to the full 90 days if every other night.

  • 30ml = approximately 1 oz, (great starter size, or travel), $18-25

  • 100ml = approximately 3.5 oz (full size — roughly a 2-3 month supply, used nightly), $45-65

400 g batch (4x 100ml/g batches)

Refrigeration extends shelf life meaningfully. A properly preserved serum stored in the fridge can stretch to 9-12 months versus 6 months at room temperature. The cold slows oxidation of your vitamin C derivative, rosemary CO2, and copper peptides significantly, and slows any microbial activity even with preservation in place.

  • Water Phase — room temp, no heat needed:

    • Distilled Water — 63.4% — 63.4g

    • Aloe Vera Juice — 10% — 10g

    • Niacinamide — 2% — 2g

    • Coffee Extract (Lotioncrafter) — 3% — 3g

    • Sodium PCA 50% solution — 3% — 3g

    • Allantoin — 0.3% — 0.3g

    • Panthenol liquid — 1% — 1g

    • Disodium EDTA — 0.1% — 0.1g

  • Thickening — pre-dispersed in glycerin:

    • Glycerin — 3% — 3g

    • Hyaluronic Acid LMW powder — 0.1% — 0.1g

  • Active Phase — combined separately then emulsified in:

    • Pumpkin Seed Oil — 2% — 2g

    • Rosemary CO2 Extract — 0.5% — 0.5g

    • Saw Palmetto Extract — 1.5% — 1.5g (Mountain rose herbs only has alcohol based, we’d want water based if at all)

    • Copper Peptide GHK-Cu — 0.5% — 0.5g

    • Vitamin E — 0.2% — 0.2g

    • Polysorbate 20 — 1% — 1g

  • Preservation and pH:

    • Geogard 221 — 1% — 1g

    • Vitaplex (Lotioncrafter), Biotin Complex or B-vitamin blend — 1% — 1g

    • Citric Acid 50% solution — to pH, approximately 0.4g

Total: approximately 100g

Process:

  • Step 1 — Whisk LMW hyaluronic acid powder into 3g glycerin until fully smooth. Set aside 10 minutes to hydrate completely. Do not rush this step — undissolved HA causes lumps that don't resolve later.

  • Step 2 — Combine distilled water and aloe vera juice at room temp. Add disodium EDTA and stir until dissolved. Add niacinamide and stir until clear. Add coffee extract and stir. Add sodium PCA, allantoin, and panthenol and stir until uniform throughout.

  • Step 3 — Drizzle HA glycerin slurry into water phase while stirring continuously. Mix until completely smooth with no visible gel pockets.

  • Step 4 — In separate small dish combine pumpkin seed oil, rosemary CO2, saw palmetto extract, copper peptide, vitamin E, and polysorbate 20. Stir until fully uniform.

  • Step 5 — Slowly drizzle oil phase into water phase while stirring continuously. Stir 2-3 minutes until fully incorporated and no oily streaks remain.

  • Step 6 — Add Geogard 221 and stir thoroughly. Add biotin complex and stir.

  • Step 7 — Test pH. Adjust to 4.5-5.0 with citric acid solution, one drop at a time, mixing and retesting between each addition. Copper peptides are pH sensitive — do not go below 4.5.

  • Step 8 — Pour into 100ml amber dropper bottle. Amber protects rosemary CO2 and copper peptides from light degradation.

  • Step 9 — Rest 24 hours then recheck pH before labeling.

Usage instructions to include with gift:

Apply 8-10 drops to dry or slightly damp scalp nightly or every other night. Part hair in sections and apply directly to scalp, not hair. Massage gently with fingertips for 2-3 minutes to stimulate circulation. Do not rinse. Style as normal. Consistent use for minimum 90 days before evaluating results — hormonal hair loss responds slowly.

What to source that you may not have:

  • Saw palmetto extract — Lotioncrafter or Making Cosmetics

  • Copper peptide GHK-Cu — Lotioncrafter, worth the investment for this application

  • Amber 100ml dropper bottle — SKS Bottle, Amazon, or Berlin Packaging

  • Biotin complex — Making Cosmetics

Hormonal hair loss is an underserved category in natural skincare and this ingredient story — rosemary, pumpkin seed, saw palmetto, copper peptide, caffeine — is evidence-backed and compelling. The hard water chelation angle with EDTA adds a regional specificity that resonates locally.

Pair with the shampoo bar with rosemary EO (for adults), plus GLDA chelation for hard water locally in the East Bay.

Price point for a 100ml clinical serum in this category is $45-65 retail without apology.

Ongoing maintenance use is the right recommendation for hormonal hair loss specifically. Here is why: perimenopausal hormonal fluctuation doesn't resolve, it evolves. The DHT sensitivity that drives follicle miniaturization doesn't switch off once hair appears fuller. Stopping treatment typically means gradual return of shedding within 3-6 months. A maintenance dose of every 2-3 nights rather than nightly is realistic and extends supply significantly.

You already have vitamin E in the formula at 0.2%. If you bump that to 0.5% it meaningfully extends oxidative stability of your pumpkin seed oil and rosemary CO2 without changing texture or feel. Small change, real benefit for shelf life. Reduce water by 0.3g to compensate.

SCALP REVIVAL SERUM

100g Batch | Hormonal & Perimenopausal Hair Loss | Fine Hair Friendly pH Target: 4.5–5.0 | Shelf Life: 6 months Format: Leave-on liquid serum in dropper bottle

Note: The serum is the right format for hair loss — not a bar. Leave-on contact time is what makes actives like caffeine and rosemary therapeutically meaningful. A rinse-out bar contacts the scalp for 2–3 minutes; this serum works for hours or overnight.

How to Use — Three Routines

  • Option A — Daily Leave-On (best results) Apply 6–8 drops to dry scalp in sections. Massage gently with fingertips 2–3 minutes. Do not rinse. Style as normal. Use daily or every other day.

  • Option B — Pre-Wash Treatment Apply generously to dry scalp 30–60 minutes before washing. Cover with shower cap if desired. Shampoo out with Gentle Shampoo Bar. Follow with Conditioner Bar on lengths only — avoid scalp.

  • Option C — Overnight Treatment (maximum results) Apply to dry scalp before bed, massage in well, leave overnight. Wash out in morning. Use 2–3 times per week on wash days.

Realistic Timeline

  • Weeks 1–4: Scalp feel improves, reduced shedding may begin

  • Weeks 8–12: New growth visible at hairline and part

  • Months 4–6: Meaningful density improvement with consistent use

  • Ongoing: Best used as a long-term routine, not a short course

Notes

  • Store away from direct sunlight — caffeine and rosemary CO2 are light sensitive

  • Use dropper bottle for precise scalp application

  • Shake gently before each use

  • 100g at daily use lasts approximately 3–4 weeks

  • Suitable for color-treated hair

  • Fragrance free — rosemary CO2 has a very faint herbal scent that fades quickly

Some fun adds:

Copper Peptide GHK-Cu

This is the most exciting addition on the list and the one I'd prioritize. The research on GHK-Cu for hair loss is genuinely strong — it stimulates follicle size, prolongs the growth phase, and has anti-inflammatory properties at the follicle level. It's also one of the few ingredients with evidence specifically for perimenopausal pattern loss. It is expensive but you use it at very low concentrations — typically 0.05–1% — so a small amount goes a long way. Lotioncrafter is a good source. This would be a meaningful upgrade to the serum.

Biotin Complex

This is the one I'd skip or treat with skepticism. As we discussed earlier, topical biotin has weak evidence for hair growth — it simply doesn't penetrate well enough through the scalp to reach follicles at therapeutic concentrations. Biotin works much better as an oral supplement. If she's not already taking biotin internally that's a more impactful recommendation than adding it to a serum. I wouldn't spend money on a biotin complex for topical use when the budget could go toward GHK-Cu instead.
