We Have Made Sugar Innocent

We add cute images and faces to beautiful sugar cookies that make kids think it is okay, and fun to eat.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sugar is detrimental to all living things, especially in the average doses we are consuming as a population.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But look how hard we are willing to fight to keep sugar in our diet.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We learn to spend hours in the kitchen to make amazing home baked goods, without putting thought into how that sugar affects us, as if we need more enticement to keep eating them. I used to spend days making sugar cookies, and never considered their detriment- until I found out that you can’t just work off that extra sugar- as well as how much control it had over me. I would have been offended if anyone told me otherwise.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are allowing sugar to control our breakfast/lunch/dinner plates (and constant snacking).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are tricking our brains and taste buds of what to expect. Once you remove sugar from your diet- a simple strawberry explodes w flavor again (yes, fruit has sugar and should also be enjoyed in moderation- max 20g of total sugar a day, about a handful of berries. But at least fruit has natural fiber and other things to help digest). Processed sugar then tastes kinda nasty once you get rid of it from your diet. Children under 2 years old should not have any sugar in their diet at all, bc it alters their expectation of food, creates dependencies (messes w dopamine receptors and greatly increases risks of being addicted to other things), as well as lack of coping with moderate stressors- not to mention slowed cognitive generation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
By making sugar innocent- We are also protecting large brands from ever changing. We are keeping their hold on us to keep buying their products, and now making the same things in our homes- building loving images w sugar. Let’s break this cycle. Let’s let our kids know this is not normal- this is not okay.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And if you tell yourself you are eating those sweets and junk food in moderation, just TWO blood sugar spikes a week doubles your chances of developing depression. (Not to mention diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s, ADHD, temper tantrums, autism.... and the list continues).
