US-UK Trade Deal Repercussions

US-UK Trade Deal Repercussions

Read in this week’s article from The Guardian: US imports will devastate our farmers.

An article written in the UK spells out why a US-UK trade deal is having issues getting passed: it could mean lowering standards of chicken consumption around the world. Don’t worry… dousing your chicken in chlorine is the last of your worries (ummmmm, are you sure about that?). The real problem is WHY we have to soak our birds in bleach in the first place.

The pathogens are a result of the “terrible U.S. animal welfare standards.” American-style factory farming packs chickens and other animals into such tiny crowded cages that they cannot turn around as they fatten up with synthetic hormones. They end up sick and covered in feces.

And Britain’s concern is that if they accept these shit-covered, bleached birds, their own standards will have to be lowered to compete with the cheap costs of American chicken. And you do NOT want to be stuck dependent on the U.S. for your food once your farmers go out of business.

Great. I guess we know that our chicken farmers took Trump’s advice to be super liberal with the bleach….
